Well, Netflix really pulled out all the stops with this one! This is a sensational horror series and I deeply hope it gets recommissioned for a second season. The soundtrack they use has an eighties vibe, provoking a feeling of nostalgia and taking us back to an 80's horror and sci-fi show. It has a sprinkle of super-8, x-files, classic American horror movies, and a dash of suspense. The cover for the show is delightfully vintage that is reminiscent of Star Wars artwork. 'Stranger Things' is set in an eighties America; Indiana to be precise. Then, we have Winona Ryder. And wow. This lady has proved she is still a relevant and incredibly talented actress. Due to personal circumstances, it appeared that she was shunned by Hollywood and has really fought to prove her worth. This show has certainly achieved that. She plays the grieving mother of a boy who goes missing. She plays the role with such realness and pure emotion that we the viewer, cannot help but get attached to her character's situation. She brings realism, desperation, and just a hint of crazy to the character. Hats off to you Winona, superb performances. Side note: this woman just doesn't age! Yet it wasn't just Winona whose acting was sensational, all of the cast were fantastic. The cop with a difficult past. The older son with a skill for photography. And the children. This pleased me a great deal. Sometimes child actor's performances can be cheesy and over-the-top, even in Hollywood movies with an almost unlimited budget for casting. Not here, though. We have a variety of believable character types that we can all relate with, that are caught up in school drama such as bullying, sex, and peer pressure. The main four children are terrific; their bond is incredible, adorable, and comical. We adore these children and sympathize with their high school existence, excitedly observe their thrilling journeys, and eagerly follow their investigations to find their missing friend. Especially when they make a new friend with a special talent.... Shocker, it is actually creepy. The antagonist in this show is genuinely creepy. This by itself is impressive. As I watch a great deal of horror I find it takes a lot to scare me. However, this show somehow managed to do just that. The creature is both chilling and enticing. Its motive and agenda is unclear for the longest time, making it all the more frightening. On top of all this, there is some kind of a science corporation performing experiments of various sorts. We are shown this little by little, building our curiosity as to what they are actually doing. Does it have anything to do with the missing kid? Or their new friend? Or the creature on the loose? Are they responsible for all of it? Or none of it? So, as you can probably glean, there is a great deal happening throughout the show. There is never a dull moment. The series takes you through a whirlwind of emotions. I am fairly certain this will become a classic horror series. 'Stranger Things' is expertly crafted, lovingly produced, intelligently and enticingly filmed, and passionately directed. It pays homage to eighties horror and sci-fi, taking us back to a simpler yet more interesting time in society. This series proves that originality isn't dead. Well done to all who were involved in the making of this excellent marvel of horror. So, need a slice of horror? A piece of sci-fi? A chunk of nostalgia? It becomes apparent that there's something besides Alzheimer's that has taken control of Deborah's life. It's an evil that is far worse than the debilitating disease with which she was first diagnosed. 9) The Hallow London conservationist Adam and his wife Clare move with their infant son to a remote house near the Irish forest. The family soon finds their new neighbors unwelcoming. They discover a gruesome "zombie fungus" growing in the house. The nearby woods spew forth a terrifying array of folkloric banshees, baby snatchers and demons. The film is awash in the otherworldly atmosphere of a dark fairy tale. "The Hallow" cleverly toys with horror film conventions while showing some of the most terrifying creatures in years. 10) Hush Author Maddie Young lives a life of utter isolation after losing her hearing as a teenager. She's retreated form society, living in seclusion and existing in a completely silent world. But one night, the fragile world is shattered when the masked face of a psychotic killer appears in her window. We adore horror, but it goes hand in hand with blood & guts. Here are 5 gory, gross, and excellent horror movies on Netflix. CAUTION: AVOID EATING WHILST WATCHING THESE MOVIES. 1) Cabin Fever. Any and all of the movies. It has recently been remade, but the third one is on Netflix right now! Cabin Fever: Patient Zero. It is great. When a group of friends enjoying a bachelor cruise in the Caribbean stumble upon a research facility on a remote island, a deadly virus is unleashed. The group must find a way to survive before the flesh eating virus consumes them all. 2) Contracted. Both movies are on Netflix right now. They aren't just great movies, but as promised, unbelievably gory. Even I, who watch horror several times a week, was cringing. Basically the movies centre around a sexually transmitted decease. But the only side effects aren't just itching and rashes. The side effects of this STD are far worse. There will be a third movie, which I cannot wait for. I urge you to watch these while they are available. 3) Day Of The Dead. A classic! This sequel to Dawn of the Dead is even gorier than the first two "Dead" films. The location is an underground government installation in sunny Florida, the purpose of which is to research the phenomenon causing the dead to come back to life. I know sequels in the horror field can be an iffy subject, most aren't for them. But in this case, I adored it. Some sequels extend and build on the story, and don't just poorly mimic the original in an attempt to make more money. This was a superb sequel stemming from a classic, and also being a classic. 4) Human Centipede. All three movies. If you can handle it. Seriously. They are gory, but mainly gross as hell. It plays on a morbid fascination of some human beings, mainly horror fans. Each movie taking a look at a twisted individual attempting to make a human centipede. The obsession growing mentally, and....physically. 5) Wolf Creek 2. Both are incredible, but I believe only the second is currently on Netflix. You may be lucky and find them both on there. You don't need to see the first to appreciate the second. Each movie revolves around a crazy Australian man with no boundaries. From manhood being chopped off, to general torture, this will have you gagging! Hats off to the man who plays the killer. Fantastic acting! CAUTION: SOME READERS MAY FIND THE CONTENT OFFENSIVE! Pandemic Pandemic is set in the near future, where a virus of epic proportions has overtaken the planet. There are more infected than uninfected, and humanity is losing its grip on survival. Its only hope is finding a cure and keeping the infected contained. Lauren (Rachel Nichols) is a doctor, who, after the fall of New York, comes to Los Angeles to lead a team to hunt for and rescue uninfected survivors. Twisted Jessica, whose father killed her mother and committed suicide, is a police officer. While investigating a murder, she finds herself in the center of her own investigation, when her former lovers start being murdered. The Invitation In The Invitation, “Will and Eden were once a loving couple. After a tragedy took their son, Eden disappeared. Two years later, out of the blue, she returns with a new husband… and as a different person, eerily changed and eager to reunite with her ex and those she left behind. Over the course of a dinner party in the house that was once his, the haunted Will is gripped by mounting evidence that Eden and her new friends have a mysterious and terrifying agenda. But can we trust Will’s hold on reality? Or will he be the unwitting catalyst of the doom he senses?” Holidays HOLIDAYS is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time by challenging our folklore, traditions and assumptions. Rebirth A white-collar suburban father Kyle (Fran Kranz) who is surprised at his office by long-lost college buddy Zack (Adam Goldberg). Zack is as wild and crazy as ever, brimming with excitement about the self-actualization program he's just finished called Rebirth. In short, Hemlock Grove has secrets. Dark secrets that actually will bite! You have a new breed of vampires, werewolves that can change on demand but will suffer the consequences, sordid family drama and even more sinister storylines intertwined in the chaos. Hemlock Grove is a winner for many reasons. Firstly, we have a remarkably talented cast who give us stellar performances! Let's start with Bill Skarsgard (Battlecreek, Behind Blue Skies) who plays the 'rich boy' Roman Godfrey. His father owns a medical facility that not-so-shockingly hides sinister experiments. Roman Godfrey is a messed up individual with sick obsessions and who is known to think with his manhood rather than his brain. Then we have Landon Liboiron who plays Peter Rumancek, a gypsy, but most importantly, the big bad wolf. He is modest, loyal and has a strong moral compass when it comes to family and friends. Landon portrays a selfless, likable character that the viewer becomes attached too. The queen bitch is played by Famke Janssen, otherwise known as Olivia Godfrey, Roman's mother. This woman is your typical deceitful, malicious, vindictive and selfish character. She only cares about number one, and to say she has two children, has no maternal instincts. She enjoys the wealth and looks down at people less fortunate than her. Yet her daughter Shelley, a deformed human, is the complete opposite. In fact, both her children despite her, seeking friendship with anyone. And if mother dearest doesn't approve, then that's just icing on the cake. These are but a few of the talented actors that really make this show. They make us love, hate, cry, and unnerve us. Moving beyond the perfect cast, I adored how the show mixes supernatural issues with everyday drama such as bullying, sex, pregnancy and so on. This gives the show an element of realism and keeps it grounded and not too bizarre, for the most part. Although some episodes will mess with your mind. In fact, some episodes alone were better than a large portion of horror movies I have seen! They keep a fast pace with revelations unfolding quickly and dramatically. We follow the characters in their various agendas, whether they are honourable, or not. The script has been intelligently written, creating a solid foundation for the actors to come in and bring to life extraordinary characters. Not to mention the intricate details of each season's main plot as well as a seemingly endless list of sub-plots. Back to the characters for a moment. Shelley, played by the superhumanly talented Madeleine Martin really pulls on our heart strings. In a world obsessed with appearance, materialism, and superficial things, Shelley has been cursed with a horribly disfigured face that most would scream at. Not to mention she is over 7-feet tall. Fortunately, her brother Roman is nothing if not a loving older brother. He stands up for her at school and is always there to talk or make her laugh. Due to her appearance, she is denied love in the romantic sense. Although she may seem like a weakened individual shunned by society, if you hurt her family she will bring her super strength out and kill you in a heartbeat. Yet this is only done to protect who she loves and she often loathes violence and harming others. Shelley is a complex character that I adored following through the show. She is addictive, compelling and utterly captivating. The actress who played her says she immediately sympathized with the character, who just wanted to be a normal girl. She brought life to this character in a way that few actors have the ability to do. In fact, we watch all the characters grow. They come into their own and realize their hidden powers and strengths. We watch how they adapt to change and seek out their heart's desires. Further more, the effects are superb. From vampire transformations, werewolf mutations, killings, and otherworldly beasts. And horror fans, rest assured, there is plenty of blood and guts! Not leaving out massacre and mutilation. Also, the majority of the actors aren't afraid of showing skin. There is an abundance of sex scenes and nudity. Props have to go to the executive producer Eli Roth (The Sacrament, The Green Inferno, Hostel). He has moulded and shaped the show into a horror hit in my opinion. We have everything we could want in a horror TV series, and then some! Overall this is a superb show. If you are looking for unusual yet enthralling characters, excellent storylines, powerful twists and turns, gore, blood, sex, unbelievable cliffhangers, originality, stunning shots, mind-blowing effects, and more, then this is the show for you! Add it to your Netflix list right now! Love horror movies, and generally all things horror? Want a FREE bestselling, award-winning collection of short horror stories? Then subscribe to my free monthly horror newsletter! wesleythomashorrorauthor.weebly.com Wanna play a game? Firstly, I am super excited to be writing this review. As an avid horror lover and big Scream fan, I was impressed with this TV series. I had my doubts and reservations that it would be a bland, boring teen TV show with no depth, that would insult the franchise. When actually, it honours and modernizes it. This series is based on the movies obviously, but it has a new backstory and cast of quirky characters. I was hooked from episode one! So now that we have determined that this series is shockingly brilliant, let's move on to why exactly that is... Every episode is jam-packed with clever revelations and an abundance of twists. The story starts off simple and then gains momentum, thickening, and darkening with each episode. I adored how the writers put in the script to shout out to the haters in the very first episode, that a TV series based on a movie would suck. Just like they did in Scream 2 by having one of the characters clearly say 'sequels suck'. Scream has always been known to be bold, self-aware, and not afraid to speak out. It has also set trends in the horror world. From the cat and mouse game to the helpless girl alone in the house, to the threatening phone calls. The show blends old conventions from the original movies and brings them into 2016. Such as the typical taunting phone conversations with the leading lady and the killer, the victim strapped to a chair and discovered by the protagonist, the typical characters: jock, slut, nerd, virgin, outcast, rebel, killer and the main character, as well as other conventions that hardcore Scream fans will notice. These are great moments! When you are watching and realize that scene is based on a scene from one of the movies, it will make you grin mischievously. The acting from the entire cast is excellent. A bunch of young, gifted actors take on the roles of high schoolers, giving the characters depth. From Willa Fitzgerald, who plays Emma Duval, taking the role of the leading lady who the killer is obsessed with. To a new character type that I found intriguing: Bex Taylor-Klaus (The Killing), who plays the bi-curious rebel and tomboy Audrey Jensen. We even see a relationship with Audrey and her girlfriend. Which is the first time we have had an openly bisexual main character in the entire Scream history. We have her best friend, virgin and gaming nerd Noah Foster, who I personally loved. He brought an element of comedy to the show. Of course, all the actors deserve praise as they create realistic characters that we either hate or love or are constantly changing our opinions of. The backstory is brilliant. A hidden past that is unveiled and revolves around Emma. Similar to the movies, but with more twists and turns along the way. And the final episode of season 1 is quite obvious in its attempt to modernize the Scream franchise. Character conflict runs throughout and is awesome. We are not only waiting for the characters to search harder into the mystery of the killer and their infatuation with Emma, we also have high school drama at play. But this high school drama isn't your typical sex, drugs and alcohol, although they do make an appearance. These issues are far more 'real'. From suicides, leaked video tapes of an incredibly personal manner, and so on and so forth. The tough experiences that they are dealing with at such a young age are, what I believe, helps the viewer bond with them. But come on, how's the gore? Well my horror fiends, the gore is sick. And by sick I mean both cool and disgusting. Even I flinched a couple of times at how far this killer goes in their attempt to slay and shock. From the classic stabbing to more Saw-like death traps. Just the way we like it! A huge whodunnit element comes to play in the show. Think the Scooby gang with horror. If we didn't care who it was or why they were doing it, the series would suck. Fortunately, we do care. We learn to love, hate, and suspect multiple characters throughout. Personally, I was flipping between three people when it came to guessing the killer. I lingered on the actual killer briefly but was dissuaded by the clever events and the backstory we are presented with. Along with this mystery/crime element, the show does a sensational job of creating tension. With silence, then unnerving background music, and a slow, holding-your-breath-in pace, we are glued to the screen as a character tries to save someone, uncover the identity of the killer, or simply try to search for clues. The action and captivation doesn't let up from episode one until the final showdown! We are left with a huge cliffhanger that makes it clear they will make a second season. And luckily for you, they did, and you don't have to wait too long... So, to conclude, those who turn their nose at even giving this series a chance, will live to regret it, or not....... Season 2 airs May 30th! With it being over ten years since I have watched this, I recently gave it a re-watch. After which I decided this is quite a remarkable movie and I should give it a review. With all the superficial vampire/werewolf movies out there these days, it is important to remember and respect the genuinely great creature feature horrors. They don't rely on pointless storylines or glittery vampires. This movie gives you chills and you are constantly unsettled throughout. We are given a history of the vampire clan in an entertaining manner. With an order of hierarchy and certain rules to be followed. But some vampires loathe those rules and choose to break them, thus making a great movie. As I always say, a movie without conflict is a movie without a soul. It is original in many ways, the rules of vampires in terms of their supernatural abilities, and the rules they give themselves, the historical background, and other elements. Yet it also takes some other staples from vampire movies and gives them an edgy remake. The student vampire learning from his master (sire). Then the girl who is lured into a vampire's clutches. Sub-plots old and done before, but in this movie they are given a new sheen of life; it is utterly enthralling. It also boasts a very talented cast. We have Aaliyah taking the role of Queen Akasha. A deadly seductress who rebels from the rules of their kind. Then an outstanding performance from Stuart Townsend who plays Lestat. A vampire who also despises the rules and makes that pretty clear by some bold choices which compel the other vampires to act or put the discovery of their kind at risk. Marguerite Moreau plays a woman with a difficult past (Jesse Reeves). The typical tortured girl act but Marguerite brings a new zest of life to that tired 'I'm helpless but curious' routine. There are many other actors who really make this movie. From vampires to humans. Then we cannot forget the soundtrack. The foundation of most good movies. An alluring and disturbing soundtrack that blends perfectly with the mood and tempo of the flick. A subtle, somber, eerie and tense vibe. The music and acting work hand-in-hand to portray this feel to the film. We have some rather superb scenery in the movie. From magnificent castles to concerts, and bustling cities. This movie doesn't miss a beat when it comes to putting all the elements together and producing an outstanding movie that will be enjoyed for years to come. And judging by online ratings/reviews, it is still enjoyed ten years plus its release. More of these type of vampire movies should be made. Not glorified, over-rated teen love stories. So pray fellow horror fiends, pray for genuine creature feature horror flicks to grace our screens very soon. We need more originals. Love horror movies, and generally all things horror? Want a FREE bestselling, award-winning collection of short horror stories? Then subscribe to my free monthly horror newsletter! wesleythomashorrorauthor.weebly.com I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this movie. The overall rating on Netflix gave me cause for concern. But this movie acted as a reminder to not take the overall rating as gospel. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. Especially when it comes to horror movies. This exorcism movie is slow paced and atmospheric. It gradually builds each scene, climaxing in an ultimate ritual. But the ending is not that which you'd expect. We have a cast of very talented and seasoned actors. From Devon Sawa, who most will recognize from 'Final Destination'. Devon plays Father John Barrow, a priest who is shamed by the devil. His character is complex and brave. Then we have another horror actress, Gina Holden. Who has also starred in a Final Destination movie: the second one. As well 'Saw 3D: The Final Chapter', the TV series 'Harper's Island (must check out if you haven't seen that one!) and much more shows and movies. Gina plays Dr. Laurie Hawthorne, a psychiatrist who tries to help Molly Hartley. Before she realizes that medication and therapy won't help Molly with her demons. Literally. Props have to go to the main character herself, Molly Hartley, played by Sarah Lind. We have the typical low demonic voice and crass language. But this demonic portrayal is different. For one, it appears to be stronger and smarter than demons in other possession movies. Then we have the fact that this demon's goal is much more ambitious. The twist, I felt, was interesting. I also very much enjoyed the soundtrack. It was reminiscent of the Halloween theme (original). Rather than simply using background noise to startle and unnerve the viewer, we have a new soundtrack. The end of the movie implies a sequel, which I highly hope will happen. I feel this greater ambition of the devil could be pushed further. While I enjoyed this movie, I am aware other horror fans may not. Some horror movie lovers like a faster pace and are used to Hollywood budget horrors with unlimited resources. But this movie has to be appreciated for what it is. A slower pace, more thought-out storyline, a new twist on the exorcism sub-genre, but not without talented actors and the excellent building of suspense. And it's pretty darn good. These types of movies can be a hit or miss. The whole concept of home invasion and how individuals handle it along with the psychology of the killer and their motive/s. Many are out there, many have been successful, many have fallen short. This one however, personally speaking, brought something new to the table. We don't just have a helpless, superficial girl with large breasts running around like a moron as she is taunted and eventually killed by a madman. This one had depth, and is smartly done. We see this from the perspective of a deaf and mute woman, which makes it all the more chilling. She is down one sense, so how will she hear him coming? There is that perspective, then there is the attachment we get to this woman. An author, who lives alone, isolated, but is still upbeat and even sarcastic. The actress (Kate Siegel) who played this role did a great job of getting us to like her. So we really pray for her survival when the intruder becomes worryingly smart. That impulse a lot of viewers have when watching a horror movie, to scream at the screen and tell the characters to hurry up he is catching up to you, or he is behind you. This instinct is almost uncontrollable when you know she can't hear. He could be right behind her, talking, threatening, and there is no way she can hear him. From a filmography perspective we have some excellent shots and then a few unusual tools used, such as when Maddie is talking to herself, running the list of options she has. The director Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Before I Wake, Absentia) is gifted when it comes to suspenseful horror movies. He is slowly creating a resputation for himself for these types of movies. I have seen several of his movies so far, and have yet to not like one directed by this award-winning director. This movie forces us to comprehend how horrifying this situation would be. A killer, prowling outside your house. But you can't just call the police. You can't scream. And you can't hear him coming. Sometimes these movies can be a little dull and slow. But 'Hush' holds our focus throughout, as both the predator and victim attempt to outsmart each other. I can hear those few horror fans who love to hate, screaming: "It was terrible. There wasn't enough gore. It wasn't scary." We have to take this movie for the sub-genre in which it exists. And in that sub-genre it is pretty great. Most horror and movie fans have heard of Eli Roth, he has created some truly incredible horror flicks. He is most known for Hostel and Hostel 2, both excellent movies in my opinion. When it comes to making us gag, yet simultaneously morbidly fascinated, he is a master. And 'The Green Inferno' is no exception. This movie revolves around a group of student activists who travel to the Amazon in hopes of saving the rain forest by employing some risky tactics. They are aware that the construction workers and men operating the bulldozers won't be happy at their staged protest. But they should be less worried about the workers, and more concerned about the natives. In particular, a dangerous tribe who have an extremely different way of living to most civilized human beings. I was advised to watch this by a friend, and have since then thanked them. This one hits all the marks for a splatter horror movie. We have a bunch of comical and entertaining characters. The leader of the project, the woman who is sleeping with him, the student activists, and their newest recruit, Justine. Justine is especially passionate about human rights, her father being a human rights lawyer. So she jumps at the chance to actually do something as opposed to talking about it. This proves a fatal mistake when they stumble upon the natives. It was ironic that the very people they were fighting to save, treat them very....badly. Prior to the butchery, there is great scenery as the cameras explore the Amazon. The filmography is excellent, giving us a range of shots and viewpoints, making the viewer feel as if they are on the journey with the activists. But regardless, most will be watching this for the horror and gore elements, and with good reason. It has some of the best graphic scenes I have ever seen, and that is including Saw, Hostel and The Human Centipede. Except this isn't just blood for the sake of it, there is a story and a reason. It is unnerving to think that tribes do exist, and perhaps they have similar ways of dealing with visitors as the natives do in this movie? It has certainly deterred me from exploring the Amazon, I'll stick to cities when I travel, or populated areas. Populated with regular people that is. This film proves that no good deed goes unpunished. All the trouble the activists went through was entirely selfless. Only to result in chaos! Eli Roth is know for this type of movie, but he really pushes the boundaries in this one, in so many ways, which you will find out. I wasn't prepared for the disturbing scenes, and I am a hardcore horror movie lover. A little tip? Don't eat while watching, and you won't want to eat after. So eat before! It may just be me, but I felt they left it open for a sequel? Which I sincerely hope happens. Sequels, as we all know, are a hit or miss concept, so they would have to bring something new to the table if they were to even consider continuing the story. Overall, an excellent movie, if you have a strong stomach. Love horror movies, and generally all things horror? Want a FREE bestselling, award-winning collection of short horror stories? Wesley Thomas Website: wesleythomashorrorauthor.weebly.com Twitter: @WesJThomas Blog: http://wesleythomasshorthorrorstories.blogspot.com/ Facebook: Wesley Thomas Horror Author I have a weakness for creature features, always have and suspect I always will. Here are what I consider to be the best creature features, so far. 1) 'Arachnophobia'. A small town becomes ravaged by spiders, one Doctor in particular, who has a petrifying fear of spiders... Great flick. Creepy, skin-tingling and a good storyline. 2) 'Anaconda'. A huge snake basically, as you probably got from the title. J Lo stars! A scientific discovery? A revolutionary treatment? Is it worth being swallowed whole by an enormous snake? I love this one! Excellent effects, impressive acting, and the director is merciless in having people die instantly, by means of a large scaly monster. 3) 'Jaws'. An ultimate classic, which everyone should know. I assume this movie is a household movie, known by everyone. A large shark terrorizes a community. From the iconic theme, to the remarkable acting, and shockingly realistic shark, given the time the movie was filmed! An all-rounder, as I like to say. 4) 'Shark Night 3D'. Another shark movie, but a great one! A seemingly innocent weekend at a lake house, if you don't count sex and alcohol, turns into a nightmare. People out to let off steam are subjected to the worst kind of torture. Twists, gory shark attack scenes, and entertaining characters. 5) 'Deep Blue Sea'. Scientists working on a remote lab in the middle of the ocean, to make sharks smarter. They are happy when their experiments work. Then soon realize they made a grave mistake by making the blue demons smarter, therefore practically unstoppable killing machines. And worst of all, the scientists are in the middle of the ocean, in their territory! This was strangely enough, smarter than your average shark flick. The characters were diverse and interesting, each with a compelling history and varying opinions on what to do when things go awry. You thought Jaws was scary? Imagine that shark had been injected with various scientific creations to make it intelligent enough to become even more ruthless and deadly. Thomas Jane stars! 6) 'Piranha'. Another one in the water. A town becomes under attack by fishes with a thirst for blood and hunger for flesh. Whether you go with the original or remake, both are fantastic viewings for fans of creature feature movies. I will say though, the remake, in my opinion, is far gorier and much more graphic. Whereas the original is better at building suspense. Can't decide? Watch both! 7) 'Godzilla'. Another one I feel most will have already seen, or at the very least, heard of. A huge dinosaur running around destroying cities. An epic end-of-the-world type movie with the mother of all creatures! How on earth will people take down a dinosaur that is literally taller than most skyscrapers? 8) 'The Thing'. An Antarctica research facility witnesses the discovery of an alien craft. Things go downhill pretty fast after that. Again, you have a choice of the original or remake, both entertaining, both with benefits the other doesn't share. A science-type one with eerieness. 9) 'The Descent'. The perfect combination of horror and creature feature. This one is gross, scary, startling and addictive. A group of women, excited for a few days of fun on a caving expedition, soon begin to regret the getaway. The group become trapped. But that isn't the bad news. They are pursued by a hoard of terrifying creatures who seem to have adapted to the darkness. Whereas the women are practically blind, defenseless against these demons. 10) 'Jeepers Creepers'. As I write this, a third one is being made! One of my favourite creature features, horror movies, and generally entertaining and unnerving flicks. A monster comes once in a while to feed, and two siblings happen to stumble upon its lair. The acting is great (Justin Long) and the movie is truly chilling. The creature does an awesome job of creeping us out, as well as downright scaring us senseless. The soundtrack in this one also needs mentioning, it significantly helps build suspense. Wesley Thomas Website: wesleythomashorrorauthor.weebly.com Twitter: @WesJThomas Blog: http://wesleythomasshorthorrorstories.blogspot.com/ Facebook: Wesley Thomas Horror Author We all love some gore, right?
WOW! What a sequel. 'Contracted: Phase 2' follows up excellently from the first. Sequels can be a tricky concept for most directors; not this one! It is even grosser, if you can believe it. The special FX makeup team really go all out in portraying the physical symptoms of this infection. From peeling flesh, limbs falling apart, blood and guts, and other forms of the body prematurely rotting away. There is even more suspense as we are given a greater exploration of the back story and the creator of the virus. We become nervous and on edge in this pursuit. The actor who portrays the evil creator in question does a great job of making us loath his character. An arrogant science-type guy who is proud of his creation and the effects it has on innocent victims. This movie proves merciless as the director has no boundaries for who dies. The same can be said for the first, but this goes even deeper. The sequel breaks the rules typically associated with a horror movie. Rules or no rules, offence or not. This movie truly is merciless. Also there is the interesting perspective of viewing the decease from a male this time. Is he infected in the same way? Do the symptoms show in the same way? Regardless, it is still fascinating, generally and morbidly. Similar to the first, the acting is impressive, with interesting relationships and dynamics. And like the first, we are given a subtle hint at the end that there will more than likely be another movie! But this time, a third. Which I sincerely hope is true. I predict a more thorough look into the plague creator... This franchise could have a rather radical impact on the zombie genre, and force directors and writers to think of new and revolutionary ways by which the decease can be made and be spread. And also the many forms of a cure. So go ahead to Netflix and watch this now!
This movie was fantastic! Gory, gross and disturbing. This was the perfect horror movie for many reasons, which I will explain. In short, we have a girl who becomes infected with what she assumes is an STD. But soon learns it is far more serious... You will never want to have sex again! It was highly original. We have tonnes of zombie movies and books and TV shows, but we seldom get a look at the process of becoming a zombie. And in such detail. It also delays the usual instant transformation so we can witness the chaos that becoming a flesh-eater causes. Biologically, mentally, emotionally. This proved both fascinating and disgusting. Yet you will not want to look away! Never have I seen a movie that leads so well into a sequel. And guess what, there is a sequel! The first was about the transformation and how the girl became infected. Having not seen the sequel as of yet, I assume it is about the spreading of the decease and maybe a way to stop it? One thing is for sure, I will certainly be watching the sequel as soon as I can. The director of this movie clearly had no limits. In terms of places that even horror movies don't go. We have movies such as 'Human Centipede' and 'I Spit On Your Grave' that really pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable to put into a movie. This one also has some highly disturbing scenes that have you gagging and cringing. But as they are rarely shown in movies, it is enthralling, in a morbid kind of way. So we have an original plot, great grossness, pushing the limits. Another reason this movie was excellent was the terrific acting. It wasn't melodramatic, or the opposite: boring and emotionless. The emotional levels of the characters were perfect. Also the dynamics between the characters were flawlessly done. The difficult mother and stubborn daughter. The girl and her lover. So many different dynamics and relationships that those are enough of a reason for watching, besides the great horror elements. It is on Netflix, and I highly suggest you watch it if you haven't already! Unless you have a strong stomach, I wouldn't eat a meal. Snacks okay, but a full meal may be ruined. Has The Walking Dead awakened a love within you for walkers? Because Netflix has a pretty fine selection of flesh eater movies. Here are what I feel are the best. 1) State Of Emergency. Chaos consumes a small town when a chemical facility explodes releasing a deadly toxin. Moments after the leak, the town's residents show signs of mutation, causing the military to quarantine the area leaving any survivors helpless and trapped inside. An excellent movie and one of my faves. I love the fact that the zombies can run. A running zombie is far more terrifying than a slow lurching one! 2) Dead Snow. A 2009 Norwegian zombie splatter film that centers on a group of students surviving a Nazi zombie attack in the mountains of Norway. Huge score for Norway with this one. Proof that they can create remarkable horror. Both entertaining and unnerving. 3) Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead. Barry is a talented mechanic and family man whose life is torn apart on the eve of a zombie apocalypse. His sister, Brooke, is kidnapped by a sinister team of gas-mask wearing soldiers & experimented on by a psychotic doctor. While Brooke plans her escape Barry goes out on the road to find her & teams up with Benny, a fellow survivor - together they must arm themselves and prepare to battle their way through hordes of flesh-eating monsters in a harsh Australian bushland. Quirky, unusual and limitless in its appeal. I genuinely enjoyed this one, despite it being different in a variety of ways from other horrors and zombie flicks. An original in the zombie genre. 4) The Returned. In a world where a deadly zombie virus has infected mankind, a single cure has been found. The cure, a treatment called the "Return Protein" which stays the effects of the virus in its host. With injections every 36 hours, the "Returned" are able to live as though they were never bit, despite the virus still coursing through their veins. When it is discovered that the protein stock is running low, chaos hits the streets. Returned who run out of the protein turn to zombies and wreak havoc, protesters turn to murderers as they try to rid the streets of the returned. An excellent zombie thriller, with a kind of realistic approach to how one would imagine a cure would work, and the fatal repercussions to be considered if the cure was ever to become extinct. 5) Severed: Forest Of The Dead. In a remote Canadian forest, a group of protesters raise a manifestation against the deforesting. When one worker uses his chainsaw to saw a large tree, its sap drops on his body and he immediately becomes a zombie. When the senior management of the company does not receive any information about the production, the owner and chairman sends his son Tyler to the location to investigate what is happening. Tyler sees both the protester's camp and the sawmill completely abandoned and sooner he finds that the area is surrounded by zombies. Zombies and deforestation? What could be better? 6) Pet Semetary. No description should be needed as this is a Stephen King classic. But for those who have somehow missed it: behind a young family's home in Maine is a terrible secret that holds the power of life after death. When tragedy strikes, the threat of that power soon becomes undeniable. Creepy, haunting, and compelling. It also tugs on the heart strings a little. Not just your usual zombie flick, but a tale of desperation and ressurrection. 7) The Horde. Simply put. An end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies. Nothing more to it. And while that may sound simple. The action, effects, and characters more than make up for the basic plot. Which as it turns out, is hiding surprises. 8) Contracted. Gradually becoming a classic in the zombie arena, adored by many horror and zombie loving fans. Contracted is a 2013 American horror thriller film. A young woman finds herself suffering from a mysterious sexually transmitted disease after a traumatic rape. I have to agree with the majority of horror lovers, this is extraordinary. Taking an unfortunate common occurence in the world and making it even more traumatic by giving the rape victim a little more than an STD. Not an easy watch, but a great one! 9) Pontypool. Shock-jock radio D.J. Grant Mazzy has, once again, been kicked off the Big City airwaves and now the only job he can get is the early morning show at CLSY Radio in the small town of Pontypool, which broadcasts from the basement of the small town's only church. What begins as another boring day of school bus cancellations due to yet another massive snow storm quickly becomes deadly. Bizarre reports start piling in of people developing strange speech patterns and committing horrendous acts of violence. Now this was compelling. Rather than seeing all the blood, guts and gore, we hear it. We are forced to imagine what it really would be like if the zombie apocalypse did happen, and how the radio would find out mid-breakout. From start to finish we are unsettled, and concerned for the radio folk's safety. 10) Day Of The Dead. Got a Netflix account? Here we go! 1) 'Insidious'. I love this movie, and it still terrifies me to this day. The creepy old lady, baby monitor bit, and that damn music! Eurgh! If you want chills, I suggest a viewing. A young boy is trapped in a dreamworld, lured out by souls wanting to inhabit his body.... 2) 'Stake Land'. Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster. A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nation's abandoned towns... Entertaining, scary, and addictive. A good one for vampire lovers! 3) 'The Den'. This one plays on realism. I have long distance relatives so personally Skype every week. This movie is filmed entirely as if from inside the laptop. No supernatural or paranormal, just a plain old stalker. Yet, despite the simplicity, the creeps in this are insane. Personally, I loved it. 4) 'Oculus'. A very strange mirror that has supernatural, evil powers. Need I say more? Scary, with some gross and tense scenes! 5) 'Dark Skies'. Messed up, haunting and fantastic! Strange things start to happen in a house, after further investigation they discover something is very wrong...Not the typical haunted house routine, far from it! 6) 'VHS'. Original, gory, realistic, and petrifying. A collection of short horror movies all wrapped up into one. I feel this movie gave the sub-genre within horror the spotlight it needed. While some of these type movies can fail miserably, others can be brilliant. Which this one was. You have everything from a night on the town gone wrong, to a couple of robbers discovering something strange about the house they are robbing. Filming styles vary, which keeps it interesting, and believable. 7) 'Dead Silence'. Do dolls and old ladies just plain freak you out? Then this is the horror movie for you. Guaranteed chills all around. A ventriloquist receives awful treatment years ago, but is back, and she isn't happy. 8) 'Devil'. I get chills just thinking of this one. A group of people end up trapped in an elevator. I am claustrophobic, so I was already nervous. Then terror ensues. The music is epic, with a talented bunch of actors. 9) 'Paranormal Activity'. Although often a controversial topic, a love or hate it deal, I love Paranormal Activity. Genuinely creepy, filmed in P.O.V with very low-key acting that makes the actors seem like real people and not actors at all. The tension and suspense is excellently done, so much so when you hear a tiny sound you freak out! A couple experience a haunting, but there is more to it than a basic haunting.... 10) 'Haunting In Connecticut'. New house. Spooky history. Strange occurrences. Sounds cliche, right? Nope, this stands out from the crowd. By the history being both terrifying and intriguing. Love horror movies, and generally all things horror? The food, the decorations, seeing family and friends, giving and receiving of gifts, the music, and even the cheesy Christmas movies. But as a horror addict, I still need my dose of horror. Whether it be blatant Christmas horror movies or horror movies set around Christmas, watching either of those really gets me in the festive spirit. Normally I struggle to find these types of movies and end up watching a basic horror, or a Christmas family flick. But not this year! I have compiled a list (which I myself will be using) for the run-up to Christmas. So I can get my Christmas jollies and also my horror fix. I hope you enjoy the list! 1) We are gonna start with my personal favourite 'Black Christmas'. The gore, terror, and suspense in this is excellent, whether you choose the original or the remake, either are excellent. In this one a psycho decides to return to the home he was raised in on Christmas Eve. But now it is home to a bunch of helpless women as it has become a sorority house. He doesn't like this very much and starts hacking the women to pieces, one by one. 2) Next 'Silent Night' is on the agenda. Simply put there is a killer dressed as Santa Claus, slaughtering innocent folk on Christmas Eve. The police desperately try and locate this murderer before there is nobody left in the remote town! A basic plot, but impressive movie. Get the gingerbread men and milk ready and add this to your Christmas horror movie night. 3) Moving on to 'P2'. This is a little known horror flick that I loved. I first found this gem last year and adored it. I didn't realize at the time, but it is set around Christmas! This one stars the insanely talented Wes Bentley and beautiful Rachel Nichols. Wes plays a psychopath who pursues a young woman in a parking garage on Christmas Eve. This is a highly suspenseful movie and wickedly enjoyable. 4) We've all heard of 'Jack Frost' haven't we? The snowman? Kids build one every year? Well not this one. This snowman was once upon a time, a serial killer. But of course no one sees this adorable snowman as a threat until it butchers them and destroys their festive cheer. 5) Moving on we have an intriguing one 'Rare exports: A Christmas Tale'. In the Korvatunturi mountains 486 metres deep is a Christmas secret. Now it has been found and forces people to believe in Santa Claus. This is one that stands out from the crowd. Great flick. 6) One should be wary of 'The Children'. It's a wonderful Christmas vacation full of holiday spirit and joy. That is, until the children begin to turn on their parents. That kind of kills the joy. Suspenseful, strange and enthralling. 7) The next one will make you think twice about going to the 'ATM' this year. A bunch of workers are enjoying a Christmas office party, drinking and dancing. Three of them, in need for cash, end up at an atm. Little do they know, this trip to collect some cash won't be a quick one. A strange, threatening individual traps them inside. Again, a gem in horror, and perfect for the season. Breathless tension, and pretty remarkable how a movie set in one place can be so riveting. 8) 'The Blackout' has been a subject of controversy. Some viewers loving it, others hating it. Personally I enjoyed it, but it's up for you to decide if it's your kind of horror. How about I give you a brief description? It's Christmas Eve and an entire city goes dark. Tenants of The Ravenwood appear to be stuck inside their building. Which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for that pesky monster prowling the halls. 9) 'A Christmas Horror Story'. Isn't that title just perfect? Almost as if the producers knew I needed a Christmas themed horror movie. Anyway, this is a movie of several tales that are interconnected, all taking place on, you guessed it, Christmas Eve. A radio host guides us through a family that brings home more than a Christmas tree, a student documentary that takes an evil turn, a spirit that terrorizes and a Santa that slays the darkness. Another different one, starring William Shatner! Go on, add it to the list. If a bunch of spooky Crimbo tales doesn't get us horror fans in the spirit, nothing will. 10) For the last suggestion, I am taking a risk here, because as I write this blog it isn't out yet. But if the trailer is anything to go by, it looks superb. And it's called 'Krampus'. As I have no personal opinion yet, I will just give you an outline of the plot. A young boy has a bad Christmas, and summons a Christmas demon to terrify his family. Aww isn't that festive? This one will be in theaters 4th December, so watch out. Well there you have it guys. The perfect way to be enjoy the festivities, while still feeding the horror movie addict lurking inside. Have a great Christmas, and a happy new year! Plenty of choice to the right > 6) Get crafty and make your own Halloween decorations. Pinterest is great for that! 7) Trick or treating. 8) Halloween party (Look online for local parties in your area!) 9) Have a movie night with friends. 10) Buy a horror themed board game and invite friends or family over. 11) Go to a haunted house. 12) Go to a corn maze. 13) Go to a paranormal investigation event. 14) Go for a spooky walk with your significant other. 15) Head over to the movie theater. 16) Listen to a short horror story online or buy an audio book. 17) Go for a drive and check out people's Halloween displays. 18) Enter a costume contest. She felt like a shark trapped in a cage, thrashing against the metal bars in an attempt to break free. Only she wasn't a ferocious animal, Laura was more comparable to the helpless swimmers a shark would attack; or the helpless seals being consumed by the water demon. The black pit that held the two of them was lacking oxygen, proving to be a claustrophobic nightmare. Silence was everywhere. The only sound being the gentle sobs of her younger companion ringing loudly in the abundance of quiet. In reality this would not disturb a library, but in their current horrifying predicament, these subtle noises could bring the walls to their knees. The only other faint disruption from the anxiety-filled quiet, were the giggles of children; eager for sugar-laced treats. Dreaming of tangy and delectable goodies, racing from house to house with their bags already overflowing, and still continuing to cram more sweet, tooth-rotting goodness into the abyss of candy. Under the dim florescent lighting Toby suddenly became hysterical and began to quiver dramatically, body convulsing every way simultaneously. He was getting cold. Panic exploded in Laura, bringing a sharp hotness to her face, cheeks aglow with abhorrence. High school had been testing. There had been times when she had seriously considered ending it all; it had seemed like the end of the world. But somewhere within well hidden intelligence that her cheerleader friends would mock, she knew it was only high school. And that in the real world there were much more frightening things. Things that hot chocolate and whipped cream wouldn't help. This was vivid, this was too real. If only it was a dream or silly fear about gossiping or playground rumours. She was in the final year, almost free of the dull lessons and dumb jocks. This was endowing strength and helping to fight the insecure impulses and doubts of her impending fate. The thought of surviving this, finishing school, and actually starting a life maintained courage. It was a test. A test that unfortunately many unsuspecting victims are forced to endure, a sick game of cat and mouse. A game where there's only one rule, that there are no rules. As she dug deep to find motivation to careen onwards on this journey, a thought was scooped from the dampness of her brain's floor. The thought was forming like a dark cloud ruining a clear blue sky on a summer's day. Toby continued to shake as the thought process came to its conclusion. Toby was hurt, and he would need medical attention soon, or death was inevitable. Just when she considered running for help, the door to the room they were hiding in, began to rattle with echoes of a deranged, petrifying laughter. Now the horrors were not of Toby's situation, or miraculously getting an SOS message out somehow. They were of the dangerous entity lurking on the other side of the door, now aware of their hiding place, no longer a game of cat and mouse, but a deadly game of hide and seek. A game they were about to lose..... ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY ONLY 99 CENTS OR 99 PENCE! Liza gladly stepped into the steamy vapour. Hot water eased each muscle running down her icy flesh. Liza grabbed the shampoo bottle and began to build a thick lather in her brunette locks. As she massaged her scalp she couldn't help but dread the impending icy future. The pleasure received from the hot shower would be short lived. Soon enough she would have to face the icy winds and horrendous snow. It was the worst weather Michigan had ever seen. Thousands of people housebound due to twenty inches of snow. Each road was hazardously slippery with thick, uneven ice. Most folk were using up vacation days, calling in sick with the flu, or having to quit their jobs. A brave few were forced to go to into work due to uncaring bosses. But beyond the snow and below freezing temperatures was something much more ominous lurking in the snow storm. Ever since the snow started in February there had been a rash of disappearances. The police were clueless. There was no pattern to the citizens going missing. All ages, men and women, rich and poor. Something deadly was out there taking anyone they could, and it terrified Liza to no end. Would she be next? After running a bar of vanilla scented soap over her body it was all she could think about. The usually pleasing fragrance did nothing to distract her wandering thoughts. These innocent people being taken, or worse yet, murdered. A lot of them had no reason to runaway or commit suicide. Most had families that they adored and careers they loved. To think they were abandoning their lives was very unlikely. As Liza ran a razor over the embarrassingly thick stubble of her legs, which she kept to maintain warmth in these horrible conditions, she jolted at the sound of the front door opening. But it was then she realized it was her roommate Clara. No doubt being dropped off by one of her many gentlemen friends after a hard night on the town. Snow be damned. What a trooper. Clara infuriated Liza. She worked at a bar with its regulars being lowlifes and drug dealers, and still made more money than Liza, much more. But Clara had something Liza didn't have, huge breasts. Liza was a petite woman in her late twenties with long brown hair. Clara was twenty two, blonde and busty. Weight was distributed in the right places giving her an enviable curvy figure. But because Clara didn't mind wearing tight, low cut tops to expose her chest, tips would come in hot and heavy. As would the men. Liza worked at an office in town, slaved away each and every day for a third of what her slutty roommate made. Liza went to college, studied hard, and for what? Some hussy to make three times more than her? But Liza smiled at the fact if she wanted Clara gone, she could kick her curvy ass out. It was her condo which she'd shared with an ex-boyfriend. When Liza came home to find him screwing some red head on the couch, he had been kicked to the curb. But the rent was too much, which is when Clara came around. She made more than enough to pay her portion of the rent. And truth be told, Liza was making her pay most of it. From the warmth of the bathroom in the basement, Liza could hear Clara stumble around until she eventually collapsed on her squeaky mattress. Noticing the time from the shower radio hung from a metal pole, she shut off the water and stepped out into a large red fluffy towel. A quick pat dry and she entered her bedroom and began changing into thick winter clothes that were laid out on her bed. Fortunately she didn't have to work today, but that driveway wasn't going to shovel itself. So, armed with a music player blasting pop beats into her ears, and a giant shovel, she braved the brisk. As if she'd been slapped in the face, her cheeks became instantly red, nose already red and snivelling. But music, and the thought of getting back inside, kept Liza motivated. The snow hadn't given up in the slightest. Thick, cold, wet and heavy blobs fell from the sky. The front lawn consisted of snowy mountains, burying trees and fences, freezing plants, and even drowning cars. Already thigh deep in snow, Liza began to shovel. But it didn't take long for her arms to burn, and a hot sweat to form on her back and under her breasts. Only minutes had passed, but by the excess of lactic acid sizzling each and every muscle, it felt as if she'd just finished a marathon. Her driveway wasn't that long, so if she persevered and pushed past aches and pains, she could get it done before nightfall. And that is exactly what she did. Scrape, lift and toss. All the while music blaring in her ears. But as evening was approaching, and the temperature lowering, with no outdoor lighting, she called it a night. Liza propped the shovel aside the garage and began wading through the sludge, wetness seeping into her boots, her toes freezing beyond belief. As Liza scratched at her itchy scalp under the pink woolly hat, her fingers caught the headphones. The cable twanged and took her music player down as it dove into the heavy snow at her side. “Damn it!” she hissed, lips dry and cracked. Stepping from the shovelled path and into the blobs of white, she scavenged. The music player itself was red, so it would stand out. But the headphones were white strings of plastic, they would blend in with the snow. And with the sun gone, only a gentle kiss of light from the moon, this would be an impossible mission. Liza wanted nothing more than to go inside, take a nice long bubble bath and settle down with a good book and piping hot mug of cocoa, sprinkled with marshmallows. But she couldn't afford to replace the mp3, and the longer it was in the soggy white mass, the more chance moisture had of leaking inside and breaking it. To her dismay the snow itself felt even colder, the feathery gloves not doing much except soaking up wetness. They were glued to each finger, sodden from a day's labour. Then her fingers felt something. Got it! She smiled, noticing how tight and uncomfortable her face felt due to the freezing temperatures. But the texture wasn't hard plastic. It was leathery. Among the skin-like material were sprouts of hair, some type of fur. Curious, Liza dug. It then occurred to her that the neighbour's dog Toffee liked to run free, and adored the snow. The little pug had been kept inside for so long it must have been driving him mad. The poor dog must be stir crazy. But that tiny dog out in this was a sure way to get it killed. A bolt of dread stabbed Liza's stomach. What if this is Toffee? Dead! Anxious she clawed frantically. Triceps and biceps were stinging, her hands trembling from the ice cold, but now that thought had entered her mind, she had to find out. A light coming on from the house startled Liza as she paused and looked up. Then it dawned on her that this was around the time Clara would start dressing for work. After all, those breasts weren't going to squeeze into inappropriately small tops by themselves. Liza tutted and commenced digging to see a face staring at her from the snow. Red eyes, white hairy skin, and a row of incredibly sharp looking fangs. The face of some kind of snow monster was staring directly at her. Liza screamed and stumbled backwards landing on wet sludge. The Antarctic werewolf began to rise from the frosty depths, growling into the night. Liza scurried frantically, but the sludge was too slippery to gain any friction. Thinking fast she rolled to the front steps and climbed up them, breathing hard. Her hand grasped the handle as she fell inside. Liza smacked into a side table where keys were often kept. A vase of flowers rested atop. But not for long as her impact sent the various roses crashing down to the wooden beams. The glass shattered into a thousand pieces and danced along the wood, tinkling as they dispersed everywhere. Roses bounced as they hit the floor, petals breaking off and landing in the puddle of water that had flushed from the smashed vase. Steps thumped loudly as Liza lay looking at the door, praying the beast wouldn't try to get inside. 'What is going on?' Clara shouted from behind, then ran to Liza after seeing her sprawled at the front door. 'What's wrong? What happened? Are you okay?' Clara crouched, panicked. All Liza could do was point to the snowy monster standing at the front door glaring at the two defenseless women who would make delicious evening meals. Clara yelled and ran to the door, bolting it shut. 'What the hell is that thing?' she panted, helping Liza stand in her many layers of winter attire. 'I don't know, it was hiding in the snow. I know one thing, that door won't hold it,' Liza wiped sweat from her face. As if the winter beast had heard that comment, it started banging on the wood and grunting loudly. The girls screeched and dashed upstairs, racing into Clara's room and locking the door. 'What are we gonna do?' Clara began to cry. 'Call the police! Where's your phone?' Liza asked, taking off the heavy coat and tossing it onto Clara's unmade bed. Clara thought for a second and then paced to her bedside table and picked up a small silver phone and instantly dialled three numbers. Liza breathed heavily until the cops answered. She looked around the room, noticing how disturbingly tidy it was. Apart from the crinkly bed, which she only left maybe half an hour ago. The carpet was clean, wood looked polished, perfumes and makeup were even neatly arranged on the dressing table. 'Yes hello,' Clara yelled. 'Yes we need help, there is some kind of large animal outside our house and is trying to get inside,' her weeping became hysterical as she ran fingers through her slightly damp hair. Liza assumed she hadn't had chance to dry it after leaving the shower. All she wore was a skimpy skirt and tiny strapless top, breasts bursting out like two scoops of vanilla ice cream. Clara continued to describe the creature and give out their address as Liza stepped to the window. She peered down to the front door to see it had gone. Just when she was about to deliver the good news, she noticed something much more alarming. The furry demon was climbing up to them. Like a cat that weighed no more than twenty pounds, it shuffled up the walls with knife-like claws scraping the wooden beams. They had maybe a minute until it got to Clara's bedroom window and broke through. Liza grabbed Clara's arm and rushed to the door, twisted the lock backwards and kicked it open. 'What the hell are you doing? Have you lost your mind?' Clara angrily spat. 'It's climbing the wall outside, it's coming up here!' Liza shrieked. 'Oh my God,' Clara muttered as Liza dragged her into the hallway, yanking the door shut. 'What are we gonna do now? That thing will easily be able to break through glass,' Clara sniffled, hands trembling. Remembering she had a police officer on the phone she quickly updated him on their situation and said goodbye, begging them to hurry. 'I think we have to go into the attic,' Liza suggested, looking up. 'But I hate attics!' Clara moaned, brushing moist hair from her face. 'Well it's either that or get shredded to death by that thing coming for us!' Liza hissed. Clara reluctantly agreed as Liza pulled the string, letting the stairs fall from above their heads as they both scurried up, full of fear. Once they were both safely in the attic, with the stairs retracted and the door shut, all they could do was wait for the emergency services in silence. It didn't help that the attic was incredibly creepy. And to avoid detection they thought it best to leave the light off. Darkness surrounding them, wind howling and snow making a moist slap on the roof. There was a tiny triangular window that allowed little light, but it was barely enough to see much. Old insulation, dusty floorboards and overhead beams, cobwebs dangling in corners, and cardboard boxes stuffed with Christmas decorations. They both sat in silence, breathing lightly and praying the monster didn't get inside. But no sooner than they collectively thought it, did a window break below. A loud smash followed by furniture bashing and knick knack’s cracking on the floor. But the most terrifying noise was the low growling, vibrating the attic floorboards. The ruckus of furniture being upturned and destroyed echoed throughout the house. Clara fought hard to stifle screams and tears of horror, chewing her lip to choke down any noise that would alert the predator to their location. 'What do we do?' Clara whispered, forehead frowning. 'Oh!' Liza almost shouted out. 'There are vents up here to allow ventilation for each room. We could look down into each one to determine when it has gone?' Liza shrugged, speaking so silently she was barely audible. 'What choice do we have,' Clara pessimistically muttered, shrugging her almost bare shoulders. Each crawled delicately around the attic, palming the floor for vent covers. But each only wafted up gusts of dust, holding in coughs and almighty sneezes. The rubbing of hands on wood luckily went unnoticed by the beast as he was making his own much louder sounds. Bashing, smashing, snapping and clouting. No doubt the place would look like an earthquake had hit by now. Liza dreaded the clean up, but simultaneously hoped she would live long enough to do that. Then Clara waved her over. 'I have one!' she whispered excitedly, arm flapping dramatically. Liza joined Clara as she was opening a small block of wood atop the vent. It was the vent to Clara's room. No longer was it shockingly organised and tidy, now the monster had demolished everything. Shelves splintered into hundreds of pieces, bed sheets torn to shreds, a pyramid of ripped clothing on the carpet, and the window shattered, allowing wind to rush in and blow any fragments of the chaos. Each woman froze when the beast charged back into the room, sniffing loudly. Oh my God, he can smell us! Liza's heart thundered. The white furry demon began smelling the various garments and clothing pooled the floor. After several items of clothing were nosed and disregarded, he angrily ran to the dressing table and hammered both arms down, the claws snapping the wood in half. The ease in which that was done, terrified the women. Facing the monster head to head clearly wasn't an option. If presented with the opportunity to fight or flee, fleeing fast and far was the only sane solution. The two halves of the dressing table opened up several draws, the contents of which poured out, rolling on the carpet. Perfume bottles smashed and let pleasant fragrances fill the room. Which previously had been overtaken by the sweaty, earthy, manure stench of the intruder. It paused for a moment, nostrils detecting the change in odour, head turning. It didn't take long for the thing to discover the source of the smell and crouch to the crumbled cologne bottles at its feet. The white beast scraped up each fragment of glass and smelled it. Which was when his head shot up and looked directly into the vent, directly at the horrified expressions of two helpless girls. 'Oh my God, he is looking at us!' Liza gasped, her trembling hand covering her face. 'What do we do?' Clara cried. The monster before them bared his fangs. He immediately started jumping, desperately trying to reach them with jagged claws fashioning dried blood and dirt, swiping through the air only inches from the vent. The girls scrambled away, huddling in the far corner, crying hysterically. They were both dripping with sweat, anxious and afraid. But soon the creaking floorboards stopped, and the whooshing of the claw waves came to a standstill. 'Has he gone?' Clara stopped sobbing as her ears pricked up. 'I'm not sure..' Liza replied, chest becoming less tight, oxygen flowing more freely. Needing to know, Liza crawled across the attic to the vent. 'Liza! What are you doing?' Clara panted. 'I just need to make sure...' Liza muttered, reaching the vent and lowering her head to it. Her eyes surveyed the insides of Clara's room. It appeared to have gone. Nothing but an incredibly messy room, no sinister brute in sight. 'I think he's gone..' Liza informed just as the lights in the duplex went out. Darkness swallowed every room. The girls were so far beyond panic. Liza scurrying helplessly back to Clara, hands brushing dust and catching splinters. 'Clara?' Liza hushed into the abyss. 'Clara? Are you okay?' Liza was now more terrified. It had been very strange she hadn't heard any screaming from her roommate. In the martyrdom Liza remembered that there was a torch up there in one of the Christmas boxes, which she was conveniently near. She blindly fumbled through the decorations and lighting, until she grabbed a long plastic shaft with a switch. Eager to bring light into the black attic, Liza flicked up the button, shining a ray through to the end of the attic, where Clara should have been. I didn't hear her move, how could she have moved? Liza worried. Shining the ray down into the boxes in hopes of finding a weapon, the light fell upon the decapitated head of Clara. Liza gagged immediately, forcing back heaps of vomit from gushing out her mouth. Her throat was burning. Veins and arteries dangled from the neck like spaghetti. They dripped blood inside the box. The bottom of the box was filled with blood. Unable to hold back the vomit, it exploded from her throat, streaming from her mouth into the box. A violent burst of orange, lumpy liquid splashing into Clara's blood. After a couple of purges, and a wave of heat spreading throughout Liza's body, she backed away to the window. Sweaty, petrified and remnants of vomit decorating her neck like a seashell necklace. She sat, knees held to her chest, tears flowing energetically. The smells that hung in the attic now were far worse than dust and mould. It was rife with the metallic tang of blood, body odour, barf, and the sickeningly sweet scent of urine. Liza held down sick for the second time, breathing deeply. But her back against the window did feel good. The cool glass was nice. It suddenly occurred to her it wasn't the best idea to sit with her back towards the window. No sooner than she thought it, did Liza hear a heavy breathing; it was animalistic and horse-like. It stunk. But more importantly, it sounded close. Very close. She wasn't sure if paranoia was taking hold, or if she could in fact feel saliva dripping onto her neck. Along with air tickling behind her ears. Liza swung around and looked out the window. The beast had its face pressed against the pane, teeth scratching the glass and blood pouring from its mouth. The red eyes bore into Liza's. This was the single most petrified she had ever been. Liza kicked away from the window and scrambled across the attic for what felt like the millionth time, back running through more dust. She held the torch aimed directly at the beast, needing to know it stayed put. She frantically thought of a way out, but feared there was none, that this was it. Which was when her elbow hit something hard and sent a sharp pain shooting up her arm. She shrieked in excruciating agony. The torch had gone vertical now, and shone light at the top of the attic. The golden ray exposed a second monster crouched on the wooden beams, readying to pounce. Another white furry beast with spit glistening on its unimaginably sharp fangs, jaw agape and eyes full of hunger for meaty flesh and refreshing blood. Liza screamed, for that was all she could do as the monster from the roof dropped down, viciously attacking her. Followed by the second beast who broke the window to join in the savagery, bringing in a bitter cold. As Liza was tore apart limb from limb, skinned alive, muscles devoured greedily, the last sensation she felt, was the icy wind screeching inside the attic. These were very icy predators. He bolted the door shut and frantically closed the curtains. Flinging his belongings aside he hauled ass into the bathroom. Marble furnishings, glass shelves and gold fittings made up the gigantic room. A room full of extravagance was lost on Russell as his nerves were still in tatters. It was coming, stalking him, lurking in every dark corner or crevice that could accommodate its huge, domineering shadow. It had crept from the fabric of nightmares and delved into reality. It wasn't that time of the month, but it was here, it was going to happen, unless he got a handle on himself. Being reminded of the entities existence made Russell slam the door and run a bath. The tinkling water fortunately had a soothing effect. To say this was needed would be a drastic understatement. An array of bubble baths were neatly lined on a shelf above the hot tub. Lavender, citrus, rose petal and coconut were the options, in antique glass jars. Knowing the calming properties of Lavender, he retrieved it from the counter and let it flow. Foamy bubbles formed as the stream from the container met with the steamy water. It didn't take long for steam to consume the room, fogging the mirrors. Just as it didn't take long for the tub to fill. Before he knew it, the bath was ready. Russell didn't hesitate for a second as he eased his feet into the warmth. Muscles relaxed and unclenched as he lowered limb by limb. He breathed deep as his guide had taught him. Russell closed his eyes and fought for control. On any given day meditation was easy. His ability to block out thoughts, distractions, worries and stress creators was surprisingly simple. But not tonight. Anger and humiliation at the hotel restaurant had brought back feelings he thought were long gone. How could he have been so naive? He ran fingers along his slippery flesh, smearing bubbles and splashing lavender doused water everywhere. As much as he was beginning to feel calmer it apparently hadn't helped. As he rubbed the thick foams around his body, he felt fur already sprouting from his flesh. Hundreds upon hundreds of brown hairs were mutating, covering flesh. Russell had grown accustomed to the pain of supernatural hair growth, hair follicles barging their way through layers of stubborn epidermis. It was the fangs tearing his gums apart and nails piercing his fingers and toes that was excruciating. And as soon as hair had overtaken his flesh, forcing skin to vanish, the nails came. Spiky, long and pointed. Blood oozed from his fingers as if they'd been dipped in red paint, dripping into the water, turning bubbles red. More crimson liquid expelled from his toes, mixing with the scented water, transforming the transparent liquid to a dark burgundy through expanding clouds of redness. “Please God help me!” Russell begged, weeping silently. But God wasn't listening. Fangs tore through gums as he screeched. His screams bounced off the marble, ricocheting off every surface. His mouth filled with blood, drooling from each corner, falling down his chest and matting the beastly hair. All the while he continued to shriek. The acoustics in the bathroom were comparable to that of a large theatre, carrying his voice throughout the room, and no doubt to the entire floor. Soon fangs had taken place of teeth, his nose had transformed into a moist snout, and eyes were now yellow, with black vertical slits in the center. His cries became growls as his vocal cords also took a turn for the worst. The metamorphosis was almost complete. The last part was the adaptation of his spine. Cracks, snaps and pops as his spine disassembled itself and regrew longer, and with a curl. Soon Russell was no more. And all he could think about, even in his monster state, was the incredibly rude woman downstairs that had brought on this change.
