Wesley Thomas Website: wesleythomashorrorauthor.weebly.com Twitter: @WesJThomas Blog: http://wesleythomasshorthorrorstories.blogspot.com/ Facebook: Wesley Thomas Horror Author I have a weakness for creature features, always have and suspect I always will. Here are what I consider to be the best creature features, so far. 1) 'Arachnophobia'. A small town becomes ravaged by spiders, one Doctor in particular, who has a petrifying fear of spiders... Great flick. Creepy, skin-tingling and a good storyline. 2) 'Anaconda'. A huge snake basically, as you probably got from the title. J Lo stars! A scientific discovery? A revolutionary treatment? Is it worth being swallowed whole by an enormous snake? I love this one! Excellent effects, impressive acting, and the director is merciless in having people die instantly, by means of a large scaly monster. 3) 'Jaws'. An ultimate classic, which everyone should know. I assume this movie is a household movie, known by everyone. A large shark terrorizes a community. From the iconic theme, to the remarkable acting, and shockingly realistic shark, given the time the movie was filmed! An all-rounder, as I like to say. 4) 'Shark Night 3D'. Another shark movie, but a great one! A seemingly innocent weekend at a lake house, if you don't count sex and alcohol, turns into a nightmare. People out to let off steam are subjected to the worst kind of torture. Twists, gory shark attack scenes, and entertaining characters. 5) 'Deep Blue Sea'. Scientists working on a remote lab in the middle of the ocean, to make sharks smarter. They are happy when their experiments work. Then soon realize they made a grave mistake by making the blue demons smarter, therefore practically unstoppable killing machines. And worst of all, the scientists are in the middle of the ocean, in their territory! This was strangely enough, smarter than your average shark flick. The characters were diverse and interesting, each with a compelling history and varying opinions on what to do when things go awry. You thought Jaws was scary? Imagine that shark had been injected with various scientific creations to make it intelligent enough to become even more ruthless and deadly. Thomas Jane stars! 6) 'Piranha'. Another one in the water. A town becomes under attack by fishes with a thirst for blood and hunger for flesh. Whether you go with the original or remake, both are fantastic viewings for fans of creature feature movies. I will say though, the remake, in my opinion, is far gorier and much more graphic. Whereas the original is better at building suspense. Can't decide? Watch both! 7) 'Godzilla'. Another one I feel most will have already seen, or at the very least, heard of. A huge dinosaur running around destroying cities. An epic end-of-the-world type movie with the mother of all creatures! How on earth will people take down a dinosaur that is literally taller than most skyscrapers? 8) 'The Thing'. An Antarctica research facility witnesses the discovery of an alien craft. Things go downhill pretty fast after that. Again, you have a choice of the original or remake, both entertaining, both with benefits the other doesn't share. A science-type one with eerieness. 9) 'The Descent'. The perfect combination of horror and creature feature. This one is gross, scary, startling and addictive. A group of women, excited for a few days of fun on a caving expedition, soon begin to regret the getaway. The group become trapped. But that isn't the bad news. They are pursued by a hoard of terrifying creatures who seem to have adapted to the darkness. Whereas the women are practically blind, defenseless against these demons. 10) 'Jeepers Creepers'. As I write this, a third one is being made! One of my favourite creature features, horror movies, and generally entertaining and unnerving flicks. A monster comes once in a while to feed, and two siblings happen to stumble upon its lair. The acting is great (Justin Long) and the movie is truly chilling. The creature does an awesome job of creeping us out, as well as downright scaring us senseless. The soundtrack in this one also needs mentioning, it significantly helps build suspense. Wesley Thomas Website: wesleythomashorrorauthor.weebly.com Twitter: @WesJThomas Blog: http://wesleythomasshorthorrorstories.blogspot.com/ Facebook: Wesley Thomas Horror Author We all love some gore, right? We adore horror, but it goes hand in hand with blood & guts. Here are 5 gory, gross, and excellent horror movies on Netflix. CAUTION: AVOID EATING WHILST WATCHING THESE MOVIES. 1) Cabin Fever. Any and all of the movies. It has recently been remade, but the third one is on Netflix right now! Cabin Fever: Patient Zero. It is great. When a group of friends enjoying a bachelor cruise in the Caribbean stumble upon a research facility on a remote island, a deadly virus is unleashed. The group must find a way to survive before the flesh eating virus consumes them all. 2) Contracted. Both movies are on Netflix right now. They aren't just great movies, but as promised, unbelievably gory. Even I, who watch horror several times a week, was cringing. Basically the movies centre around a sexually transmitted decease. But the only side effects aren't just itching and rashes. The side effects of this STD are far worse. There will be a third movie, which I cannot wait for. I urge you to watch these while they are available. 3) Day Of The Dead. A classic! This sequel to Dawn of the Dead is even gorier than the first two "Dead" films. The location is an underground government installation in sunny Florida, the purpose of which is to research the phenomenon causing the dead to come back to life. I know sequels in the horror field can be an iffy subject, most aren't for them. But in this case, I adored it. Some sequels extend and build on the story, and don't just poorly mimic the original in an attempt to make more money. This was a superb sequel stemming from a classic, and also being a classic. 4) Human Centipede. All three movies. If you can handle it. Seriously. They are gory, but mainly gross as hell. It plays on a morbid fascination of some human beings, mainly horror fans. Each movie taking a look at a twisted individual attempting to make a human centipede. The obsession growing mentally, and....physically. 5) Wolf Creek 2. Both are incredible, but I believe only the second is currently on Netflix. You may be lucky and find them both on there. You don't need to see the first to appreciate the second. Each movie revolves around a crazy Australian man with no boundaries. From manhood being chopped off, to general torture, this will have you gagging! Hats off to the man who plays the killer. Fantastic acting!
WOW! What a sequel. 'Contracted: Phase 2' follows up excellently from the first. Sequels can be a tricky concept for most directors; not this one! It is even grosser, if you can believe it. The special FX makeup team really go all out in portraying the physical symptoms of this infection. From peeling flesh, limbs falling apart, blood and guts, and other forms of the body prematurely rotting away. There is even more suspense as we are given a greater exploration of the back story and the creator of the virus. We become nervous and on edge in this pursuit. The actor who portrays the evil creator in question does a great job of making us loath his character. An arrogant science-type guy who is proud of his creation and the effects it has on innocent victims. This movie proves merciless as the director has no boundaries for who dies. The same can be said for the first, but this goes even deeper. The sequel breaks the rules typically associated with a horror movie. Rules or no rules, offence or not. This movie truly is merciless. Also there is the interesting perspective of viewing the decease from a male this time. Is he infected in the same way? Do the symptoms show in the same way? Regardless, it is still fascinating, generally and morbidly. Similar to the first, the acting is impressive, with interesting relationships and dynamics. And like the first, we are given a subtle hint at the end that there will more than likely be another movie! But this time, a third. Which I sincerely hope is true. I predict a more thorough look into the plague creator... This franchise could have a rather radical impact on the zombie genre, and force directors and writers to think of new and revolutionary ways by which the decease can be made and be spread. And also the many forms of a cure. So go ahead to Netflix and watch this now!
This movie was fantastic! Gory, gross and disturbing. This was the perfect horror movie for many reasons, which I will explain. In short, we have a girl who becomes infected with what she assumes is an STD. But soon learns it is far more serious... You will never want to have sex again! It was highly original. We have tonnes of zombie movies and books and TV shows, but we seldom get a look at the process of becoming a zombie. And in such detail. It also delays the usual instant transformation so we can witness the chaos that becoming a flesh-eater causes. Biologically, mentally, emotionally. This proved both fascinating and disgusting. Yet you will not want to look away! Never have I seen a movie that leads so well into a sequel. And guess what, there is a sequel! The first was about the transformation and how the girl became infected. Having not seen the sequel as of yet, I assume it is about the spreading of the decease and maybe a way to stop it? One thing is for sure, I will certainly be watching the sequel as soon as I can. The director of this movie clearly had no limits. In terms of places that even horror movies don't go. We have movies such as 'Human Centipede' and 'I Spit On Your Grave' that really pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable to put into a movie. This one also has some highly disturbing scenes that have you gagging and cringing. But as they are rarely shown in movies, it is enthralling, in a morbid kind of way. So we have an original plot, great grossness, pushing the limits. Another reason this movie was excellent was the terrific acting. It wasn't melodramatic, or the opposite: boring and emotionless. The emotional levels of the characters were perfect. Also the dynamics between the characters were flawlessly done. The difficult mother and stubborn daughter. The girl and her lover. So many different dynamics and relationships that those are enough of a reason for watching, besides the great horror elements. It is on Netflix, and I highly suggest you watch it if you haven't already! Unless you have a strong stomach, I wouldn't eat a meal. Snacks okay, but a full meal may be ruined. Has The Walking Dead awakened a love within you for walkers? Because Netflix has a pretty fine selection of flesh eater movies. Here are what I feel are the best. 1) State Of Emergency. Chaos consumes a small town when a chemical facility explodes releasing a deadly toxin. Moments after the leak, the town's residents show signs of mutation, causing the military to quarantine the area leaving any survivors helpless and trapped inside. An excellent movie and one of my faves. I love the fact that the zombies can run. A running zombie is far more terrifying than a slow lurching one! 2) Dead Snow. A 2009 Norwegian zombie splatter film that centers on a group of students surviving a Nazi zombie attack in the mountains of Norway. Huge score for Norway with this one. Proof that they can create remarkable horror. Both entertaining and unnerving. 3) Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead. Barry is a talented mechanic and family man whose life is torn apart on the eve of a zombie apocalypse. His sister, Brooke, is kidnapped by a sinister team of gas-mask wearing soldiers & experimented on by a psychotic doctor. While Brooke plans her escape Barry goes out on the road to find her & teams up with Benny, a fellow survivor - together they must arm themselves and prepare to battle their way through hordes of flesh-eating monsters in a harsh Australian bushland. Quirky, unusual and limitless in its appeal. I genuinely enjoyed this one, despite it being different in a variety of ways from other horrors and zombie flicks. An original in the zombie genre. 4) The Returned. In a world where a deadly zombie virus has infected mankind, a single cure has been found. The cure, a treatment called the "Return Protein" which stays the effects of the virus in its host. With injections every 36 hours, the "Returned" are able to live as though they were never bit, despite the virus still coursing through their veins. When it is discovered that the protein stock is running low, chaos hits the streets. Returned who run out of the protein turn to zombies and wreak havoc, protesters turn to murderers as they try to rid the streets of the returned. An excellent zombie thriller, with a kind of realistic approach to how one would imagine a cure would work, and the fatal repercussions to be considered if the cure was ever to become extinct. 5) Severed: Forest Of The Dead. In a remote Canadian forest, a group of protesters raise a manifestation against the deforesting. When one worker uses his chainsaw to saw a large tree, its sap drops on his body and he immediately becomes a zombie. When the senior management of the company does not receive any information about the production, the owner and chairman sends his son Tyler to the location to investigate what is happening. Tyler sees both the protester's camp and the sawmill completely abandoned and sooner he finds that the area is surrounded by zombies. Zombies and deforestation? What could be better? 6) Pet Semetary. No description should be needed as this is a Stephen King classic. But for those who have somehow missed it: behind a young family's home in Maine is a terrible secret that holds the power of life after death. When tragedy strikes, the threat of that power soon becomes undeniable. Creepy, haunting, and compelling. It also tugs on the heart strings a little. Not just your usual zombie flick, but a tale of desperation and ressurrection. 7) The Horde. Simply put. An end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies. Nothing more to it. And while that may sound simple. The action, effects, and characters more than make up for the basic plot. Which as it turns out, is hiding surprises. 8) Contracted. Gradually becoming a classic in the zombie arena, adored by many horror and zombie loving fans. Contracted is a 2013 American horror thriller film. A young woman finds herself suffering from a mysterious sexually transmitted disease after a traumatic rape. I have to agree with the majority of horror lovers, this is extraordinary. Taking an unfortunate common occurence in the world and making it even more traumatic by giving the rape victim a little more than an STD. Not an easy watch, but a great one! 9) Pontypool. Shock-jock radio D.J. Grant Mazzy has, once again, been kicked off the Big City airwaves and now the only job he can get is the early morning show at CLSY Radio in the small town of Pontypool, which broadcasts from the basement of the small town's only church. What begins as another boring day of school bus cancellations due to yet another massive snow storm quickly becomes deadly. Bizarre reports start piling in of people developing strange speech patterns and committing horrendous acts of violence. Now this was compelling. Rather than seeing all the blood, guts and gore, we hear it. We are forced to imagine what it really would be like if the zombie apocalypse did happen, and how the radio would find out mid-breakout. From start to finish we are unsettled, and concerned for the radio folk's safety. 10) Day Of The Dead.
