This movie was fantastic! Gory, gross and disturbing.
This was the perfect horror movie for many reasons, which I will explain.
In short, we have a girl who becomes infected with what she assumes is an STD. But soon learns it is far more serious... You will never want to have sex again!
It was highly original. We have tonnes of zombie movies and books and TV shows, but we seldom get a look at the process of becoming a zombie. And in such detail. It also delays the usual instant transformation so we can witness the chaos that becoming a flesh-eater causes. Biologically, mentally, emotionally. This proved both fascinating and disgusting. Yet you will not want to look away!
Never have I seen a movie that leads so well into a sequel. And guess what, there is a sequel!
The first was about the transformation and how the girl became infected. Having not seen the sequel as of yet, I assume it is about the spreading of the decease and maybe a way to stop it? One thing is for sure, I will certainly be watching the sequel as soon as I can.
The director of this movie clearly had no limits. In terms of places that even horror movies don't go. We have movies such as 'Human Centipede' and 'I Spit On Your Grave' that really pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable to put into a movie. This one also has some highly disturbing scenes that have you gagging and cringing. But as they are rarely shown in movies, it is enthralling, in a morbid kind of way.
So we have an original plot, great grossness, pushing the limits. Another reason this movie was excellent was the terrific acting. It wasn't melodramatic, or the opposite: boring and emotionless. The emotional levels of the characters were perfect. Also the dynamics between the characters were flawlessly done. The difficult mother and stubborn daughter. The girl and her lover. So many different dynamics and relationships that those are enough of a reason for watching, besides the great horror elements.
It is on Netflix, and I highly suggest you watch it if you haven't already! Unless you have a strong stomach, I wouldn't eat a meal. Snacks okay, but a full meal may be ruined.
